• Aurantiol (hydroxycitronellal / methyl anthranilate Schiffs base)

Olfactory profile:

Neroli, muguet, grape, sweet, floral, orange-blossom.
Aurantiol is perhaps the best known Schiff's base and is extensively used in a large variety of floral notes such as orange-blossom, linden-blossom and tuberose.
Schiff's bases are created by reacting equal molecular weights of an aldehyde with methyl anthranilate (in this case hydroxycitronellal) - the result is a particularly pervasive and diffusive set of chemicals which are widely used in perfumery.
